Ukrainian refugees, the answer of Trentino

27/02/2022

The Province contributes to the reception of people fleeing their country

"The social policies sector of the Province has been activated to contribute to the reception of the first asylum seekers from Ukraine". This was said (26/2/2022) by the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, with reference to the first two families fleeing the conflict. They are six people, bound by family ties, who are stopping in Trento where, facing many difficulties, they have been reunited with other relatives who were already in the province.
"We are in contact with the Commissariato del Governo and the Comune of Trento," Fugatti said. "We expect new arrivals in the region, particularly women with their children."
In the meantime, Vice-President Tonina participated in the event that took place (26/2/2022) in Trento for peace in Ukraine, organized by the Trentino Forum for Peace and Human Rights.
"Solidarity and closeness - said Tonina - to the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian community in Trentino. In such a difficult moment we want to condemn this war that Russia wanted to unleash: we hope that dialogue and mediation can still prevail, an important work has been done but it did not bring the expected results. The Autonomous Province of Trento will do its part through reception and - humanitarian corridors - by responding to those who in this moment are suffering and in difficulty".
Also the community is working to support Ukrainian citizens already arrived or arriving in Trentino. Among the various initiatives, the Cultural Association of Ukrainians Rasom has activated a gathering of basic necessities at its headquarters in Via Sant'Antonio 22 in Trento.
