The latest Eurostat data updated to December 2024
By the end of December 2024, about 4.3 million non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine had temporary protection status in the EU. The data come from Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office.
The EU countries hosted the highest number of temporary protection beneficiaries from Ukraine were Germany (1,161,450 people; 27.3 percent of the EU total), Poland (991,630; 23.3 percent) and the Czech Republic (388,625; 9.1 percent). Compared to the end of November 2024, the total number of people under temporary protection in the EU at the end of December increased by 25,590 (+0.6 percent). At the end of December, Ukrainian nationals accounted for more than 98.3 percent of temporary protection beneficiaries. Adult women made up nearly half (44.8%) of the beneficiaries. Children almost a third (31.9%), while adult men made up less than a quarter (23.2%) of the total.
The European Council decided to extend temporary protection for these people from March 4, 2025 to March 4, 2026.
