The status of family member of a European Union citizen (including mobile or stable Italian citizen) provides the holder with particularly favourable treatment when applying for a visa and residency permit in Italy. An Italian citizen or national from a foreign country who has just moved back to Italy is considered mobile; on the contrary, a stable Italian citizen or national who has not exercised his right to mobility is considered stable.
