"World Migration Report 2022"

IOM World Migration Report online

"Just as global mobility has essentially halted due to travel restrictions caused by Covid-19, there has been a dramatic increase in internally displaced people due to disasters, conflict and violence." This is stated by the IOM, International Organization for Migration, launching the 2022 edition of the "World Migration Report".
According to the report, the number of global air passengers fell by 60 per cent in 2020 (1.8 billion compared to 4.5 billion in 2019), while at the same time the number of internally displaced persons due to disasters, conflict and violence rose to 40.5 million (up from 31.5 million in 2019).
The number of international migrants grew from 84 million globally in 1970 to 281 million in 2020, although - IOM says - when global population growth is taken into account the proportion of international migrants increased from only 2.3 per cent to 3.6 per cent of the world's population.
Most people globally (96.4%) reside in the country of their birth. The number of international migrants for 2020 was about 2 million lower than it would otherwise have been due to Covid-19.
In addition to data analysis, the IOM World Migration Report explores issues such as migration and climate change, the links between peace, development and migration, human trafficking, the impacts of Covid-19 and misinformation on migration.
