Ukrainians in Italy, meeting at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies
Meeting between the Minister of Labour and Social Policies and the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity of Ukraine in view of the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, to be held in Rome on 10 and 11 July, 2025. The focus of the meeting was on policies for the reception, protection and inclusion of refugee citizens in Italy, even after the end of the conflict. The principle of the ‘human dimension’ of work, also in view of the reconstruction of Ukraine that will take place after peace has been achieved, was reaffirmed, according to a note from the Ministry.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Policies states that almost 200,000 people fleeing the war in Ukraine have passed through Italy, mostly women and minors. A flow also determined by the presence of a stable and large community of Ukrainian migrants, which before the Russian invasion already numbered over 230,000 people and immediately offered hospitality and support to the new arrivals.
