The University of Trento is among the 43 subscribers of the Manifesto of the Inclusive UniversityUNHCR and Italian universities together for the inclusion of refugee students
43 Italian universities have joined the
Manifesto of the Inclusive University
launched a year ago by UNHCR, UN Agency for Refugees, to promote the access of refugees to higher education and promote social integration and active participation in academic life in Italy. Among them, also the University of Trento.
"Schools and universities - says the UNHCR - offer an important opportunity for young refugees, representing a fundamental step in their personal and professional development and social inclusion". Only 3% of refugees, according to UNHCR estimates, have access to higher education compared to an average of 37% globally.
By 2030, the UN Agency aims to achieve a 15% enrolment rate in higher education programs for refugees in host and third countries. This is also through the expansion of safe access routes that take into account the specific needs and legitimate aspirations of refugees to build their future in dignity.
