Migration and mobility among the main areas of interventionThe EU proposes a "New Agenda for the Mediterranean"
Migration and mobility" is also among the five areas of intervention of the "New Agenda for the Mediterranean" proposed by the European Commission to relaunch and strengthen the strategic partnership between the European Union and its partners in the Southern Neighborhood. In particular, the Agenda envisages "jointly addressing the challenges of forced displacement and irregular migration and facilitating legal and secure routes for migration and mobility".
The Agenda includes a dedicated economic investment plan to stimulate long-term socio-economic recovery in the Southern Neighborhood. Under the EU's new Neighborhood, Development Cooperation and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI), up to €7 billion would be allocated for the period 2021-2027 to implement the Agenda, an amount that could mobilize up to €30 billion in private and public investment in the region over the next ten years.
