Social and economic inclusion of refugees in Italy

04/12/2023

Memorandum subscribed by Italian Notariat and UNHCR

Social and economic inclusion of refugees in Italy and protection of their fundamental rights. These are the aims of the memorandum signed in late November 2023 in Rome by the National Council of Notaries and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
The protocol, in accordance with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals acknowledged by the United Nations, identifies actions aimed at achieving the following goals:

- to carry out counseling activities in particular in the following areas: authentication of photograph, document or translation of the same; civil registration; documentation necessary to register for marriage; family reunification; citizenship; recognition of qualifications; conferral of power of attorney; first orientation in the corporate sphere (opening or joining a business/company)
- to diffuse multilingual information materials on the main areas in which Italian notaries can assist refugees in their social and economic integration journey
- to implement joint communication initiatives

The agreement represents the National Council of Notaries' contribution to Italy's achievement of the Global Compact on Refugees goals, a UNHCR project that represents the political will and ambition of the international community to strengthen cooperation and solidarity with refugee and host countries around the world.
More than 114 million people around the world are forced to flee war, persecution, violence and human rights violations, 75 percent of whom are received by low- or middle-income countries.
