To promote legal immigration and to fight crime

An inter-ministerial memorandum on migration and mobility issues has been signed (May 7, 2025) during an institutional visit to Islamabad between the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Italy. The focus of the talks was on the fight against international criminal networks, human traffickers, and countering terrorism and drug trafficking. A letter of intent to establish the “Joint Committee for the Promotion of Cooperation in Preventing and Combating Crime” was also signed. “The letter of intent,” says a note from the Italian Ministry of the Interior, ”has the ultimate goal of developing joint action, as well as coordinating and sharing security cooperation initiatives and activities.”

A similar agreement was signed on May 6, 2025 in Bangladesh to strengthen cooperation with Italy in combating illegal migration and human trafficking. Also in this case, an inter-ministerial memorandum on migration and mobility was signed. The aim, says the Viminale, is “to encourage legal migration, cooperation in the management of migration including the repatriation of irregular migrants, the prevention and countering of all forms of illegal migration, exploitation and trafficking in human beings, and to strengthen the exchange of information between Police Forces. Maximum steadiness against criminal networks that offer real packages to enter Italy irregularly, through dangerous routes, endangering people's lives.”
