Decree of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
The list of countries of origin considered safe by Italy in relation to applicants for international protection has been expanded. The inter-ministerial portal Integrazione Migranti reports the specific Decree of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Being a citizen of a country considered safe does not prevent applying for and eventually obtaining international protection in Italy. It does, however, change the procedure. For example, the application can be rejected for manifest groundlessness if there are no serious reasons to consider, in particular personal cases, this country unsafe in case of repatriation. It should be noted that the inclusion of a country on the list has no effect on applications for international protection submitted before the adoption of the decree.
Updated list of countries considered safe by Italy (additions in bold):
Albania, Algeria, Bangladesh, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Morocco, Montenegro, Nigeria, Peru, Senegal, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia.
