Record growth in displaced persons and remittances
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has released the
World Migration Report 2024
(World Migration Report). The study shows significant changes in global migration patterns, including a record number of displaced persons and a massive growth in international remittances, which increased by 650 percent, or from $128 billion to $831 billion between 2000 and 2022. the IOM points out that migrant remittances outpace foreign investment in boosting the GDP of developing countries.
In contrast, there are 281 million migrants globally, plus 117 million people on the move due to conflict, violence, disasters.
