To “further restrict irregular immigration and safeguard internal security”Germany, border controls return from September 16, 2024
Controls will return to Germany's land borders with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark for six months, starting Sept. 16, 2024. Border controls will then be possible at all of Germany's land borders from that date, since the government had already reinstated controls at borders with Austria, Switzerland, the Republic of Poland, and the Czech Republic. This is reported by the inter-ministerial portal Integration Migrants.
The entire package of fixed and mobile border police measures will be enforced, including the possibility of refusing entry at the border, as allowed by national and EU legislation. The German government stresses the need to further limit irregular migration and protect Germany's internal security.
