From a quantitative point of view there is little news about Africa, from a qualitative point of view it is often focused on immigration, news events and marginality, feeding an alarmist and distorted narrative about Africans and Afro-descendants.
This is what emerges from the 5th "Africa MediaTa" report, produced by the Osservatorio di Pavia for Amref Italy and recently presented in Rome.
The work is based on a media monitoring activity to define how much and how Africa is talked about in Italian media.
The 2024 edition focuses in particular on African youth and women's activism in television programs and on social networks with respect to some relevant issues such as environment, health, art and culture. Again, the low presence of African women and activists was noted.
