The report examines current national approaches in relation to the new EU Regulation on asylum procedures
The European Migration Network (EMN) has published a fact sheet on safe countries of origin and safe third countries, outlining the criteria for identifying and examining applications in light of the new Regulation (EU) 2024/1348 on asylum procedures.
Based on contributions from 26 EMN member countries and Serbia, the document examines current national approaches to the concepts of safe country of origin (SCO) and safe third country (STC) and their relevance to the implementation of the Regulation on asylum procedures starting in June 2026.
