Frontex data: -27% in the first 4 months of 2025In the first four months of 2025, the number of irregular crossings of the EU external borders fell by 27 percent to around 47,000. The (preliminary*) figures come from Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. The most trafficked route, Frontex says, is the central Mediterranean, accounting for one-third of all arrivals in the EU. The Western Balkans saw the largest decrease in arrivals in the January-April period (-58 percent). The main nationalities detected are Bengali, Afghan and Malian.
